Hooking up laptop to TV via VGA to RCA component cable?
I have an old TV with red, yellow, and white audio-video connections.
I have a sony Vaio laptop with an HDMI and VGA port.
I bought a VGA to Red Green Blue 3 RCA component cable so I can hook up my laptop to the TV to watch movies (this cable looks like this one: http://cgi.ebay.ca/1-5M-15P-VGA-HD15-to-RGB-3-RCA-COMPONENT-TV-HDTV-CABLE_W0QQitemZ370277586558QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item563643967e)
The problem is that when I try to follow some advice I read about hooking up the cable to the TV in this manner: red to red, blue cable component to yellow TV, Green cable to white TV, it doesn’t work…all I get is a fuzzy black and white image.
Did I get the right cable?
I asked this question before here and I was told that VGA to RCA should work.
Help, please?
VGA to RCA will work. What you have is VGA to component. RCA is the same thing as composite, which is what you need. Actually, what you will need (and good luck finding it) is VGA to yellow (your graphics card can’t transmit audio, so going to red white and yellow will not benefit you at all). If you want audio from your TV as well, you need to get an audio cable (1/8 inch on one side to come out of your headphone jack on your laptop, and red/white on the other side to go into the tv).
