Dvd Player Sacd
do I need a more expensive/different receiver to connect an SACD player for the purpose of listening to SACDs?
I’m thinking of getting the OPPO Universal DVD player, that Amazon has for $170, probably in a couple months. But I only have two SONY speakers that I paid $49 for and the STRDE197 receiver, which was also fairly cheap ($115 at amazon). is this setup not compatible with the SACD format? If it’ll work, what cables and other accessories, if any, do I need to make this happen? Thanx for your answers!
Any Audio/Video receiver with multichannel RCA inputs can be used with a SACD player, and you’ll get surround sound with fantastic sound. Keep in mind not all SACD discs are multichannel, some are two channel stereo only. A SACD player will work just fine hooked in just as a stereo unit, too. Just hook up the right and left audio as you would with a CD player. This is an option if your receiver isn’t multichannel or you can’t afford more than two speakers. If your receiver has multichannel analog inputs (RCA jacks) all you need are 3 pairs of patch cords for the multichannel sound and one more pair for the stereo or two-channel sound. If your Oppo does not have a separate set of stereo mixdown jacks for two channel use, use a “Y” connector on the right and left front output jacks on the multichannel output. This is because most receivers expect a signal to all 6 channels when using the multichannel inputs and you won’t get full range sound from your speakers sending a two channel signal to the multichannel inputs. As your Oppo is also a DVD player you may want to hook up a Coax or Fiberoptic digital cable for Dolby and DTS movie surround sound.
