Flat Panel Screen
What are the differnces in high panel, flat screen, high def or will I have to buy a converter box?
The new “stuff” and all of this TV thing is going in effect in like 2 years. This is all so very crazy making Does anyone out there think anything about this HDTV crap? I would like only SERIOUS answers, Emails, IMs are a-ok with me.

The switchover from analog to digital will only affect people who are using an antenna to receive TV channels. If you’re using cable or satellite, your TV will still continue to work as-is.
The switchover has NOTHING to do with HDTV, even though all HDTVs already contain the digital tuner. In fact, all TVs over 25″ in size since 2000 already contain the new tuner.
Even if your TV doesn’t have the new tuner already, you’ll be able to buy a new tuner box for about $20 starting next year.
HDTV is a totally different topic. Basically, it provides you with a much higher resolution picture, providing you with a sharper, more detailed picture than what a standard TV provides. Right now, there aren’t that many channels available in HD. National broadcast channels, like your local Fox, CBS, PBS, NBC, and ABC stations have already started offering HD broadcasts in addition to their regular channels. However for cable and satellite channels, most have not made the switch yet – and you’ll need to upgrade your subscription to receive those channels as well.
The difference between standard and HD is quite startling, but right now, I wouldn’t say it’s for everyone. The market is still evolving quite quickly and there isn’t a whole lot of content yet. Don’t feel you need to buy a new TV right away – even after 2009.
