How to make subwoofer look nicer in my living room?
My husband and I just bought the Sony Bravia 5.1 5 speaker home entertainment theatre and the subwoofer looks awful! It is fairly sleek, but it is huge! We have a small entertainment stand (three open shelves) that must also hold our XBOX360, PS2, Wii, router, receiver, and cable modem. No matter how we position the subwoofer (which is directly below our 37″ Vizio and directly across from the main seating area) it looks so ugly! To me it just looks like a CPU sitting randomly in our living room.
Any suggestions? We have two turnstile-type DVD racks in the corner about 6 feet from our entertainment stand (and diagonal from the main seating area); I wanted to put the subwoofer behind the DVD racks but my husband says that will prevent us from achieving excellent sound quality.
Suggestions of any kind are welcome! I just want to figure out how to integrate the subwoofer into our living room without it looking out of place or hulking.
Bass notes are largely non-directional, so location is non-critical. While there may be a ‘best’ location that is obtrusive, it’s quite likely you can position the subwoofer somewhere in the room that isn’t as visually obvious. Try putting behind a sofa, or under a coffee or end table, or even in a vented closet (e.g. louvered door).
