Hdmi Flat Cable
I was wondering if i connect a HDMI to VGA cable from my cable box to a pc flat panel monitor, would i be able?
to watch regualar cable on the monitor as well as HD cable? If not, then what would i need to be able to watch cable tv using my cable box and a flat panel pc monitor?
Unfortunately no, that will not work. The video signal carried by HDMI is digital DVI. It is not compatible with an analog VGA input. Not unless you use a scan converter device to convert the signal.
However, if your monitor is HDCP-compliant and has a DVI port, you can indeed use a DVI-to-HDMI cable to directly connect your monitor to the HD cable box, and it will work nicely. (You do need to hook up a separate set of speakers to the cable box to get audio though).
