Switching from high speed cable to dsl?
I am considering switching from Charter high-speed cable tv and internet to satellite Direct TV and Quest dsl internet. Only for the reason of adding more tv channels for the same monthly cost. Does anyone have any experience, knowledge, or stories they can share to help me make my decision? Pros or cons appreciated. Direct TV requires a 18 month commitment and a one year commitment to the Quest phone line. I understand that repairs after the 3 month warranty on the satellite dish can be expensive. How bad does rain/snow affect tv reception? Any costly problems with the dish?
rain/snow has little effect on satelite, in my experience. I remember losing the picture once during the worst snowstorm of the year, but it was only temporary and came back pretty quick. As long as there are no trees too close to the dish, no weather should be an issue. As for DSL, expect it to be a little slower than cable, but you only notice it during downloads (music, videos, etc). I’ve had both, and noticed very little difference between the two.
