Interconnect Audio Cable
How do I setup my reciever so I can also get sound through my TV?
I only want to use my surround sound receiver sometimes and other times I would like to use my TV’s speakers (by me I mean my wife).
I have:
Sony 40xbr3
Yamaha RX-V1900
PS3
GameCube (old I know but fun)
Motorola Cable Box
Harmony 890
Will be adding a 5-disc SACD/DVD-A unit

I would ideally like to set us the system running HDMI only to the TV but if I can’t do that I would like to know if I can use the record out function or pre-amp out an use the interconnects to the analog audio in on the TV’s hdmi port?
Most receivers will allow you to switch into pass-thru mode, so that the audio signal will go out on the HDMI cable. However this only works for those devices you connect to the receiver with an HDMI cable. (Receivers can’t convert analog audio to HDMI audio…)
So that should work for your cable box and PS3.
The GameCube is only stereo anyways, so I’d just connect it straight to the TV and not bother with the surround system at all.
I don’t think I’d bother trying to connect the SACD/DVD-A player to the TV at all either. The whole point of SACD/DVD-A is 5.1 audio. If your wife really wants to play music and doesn’t want to use the surround system, just have her use the PS3 as a CD player (silly, I know.)
Or, you can setup a media server, rip her CDs to hard drive, and use the PS3′s streaming feature to act as a TV-based media player.
