Optical Audio Cable
What is the best brand for getting a digital optical audio cable?
We just got and HDTV and I’m in need of some digital optical audio cables. I want one that will sound good, yet not be super expensive. I don’t want to pay $3 for a crappy one either. I kinda need a balance of quality and price. Buy.com has the best prices, but I can’t decide on a brand. Any suggestions?
In truth – there is a huge variation in quality of optical cables.
But the light just has to make it from one end to the other so cheap plastic fiber optic cables work great in a home theater system.
The better cable is one with a stiff outer coating that fights bending as cracks can develop in the plastic or glass fibers that can sometimes cause dropouts in the sound. The shoe-string thin cable are a lot more prone to breaks.
Get some of the ones with a thick case from www.monoprice.com. You are spending a bit more for the solid connectors and thick/stiff insulation, but this is what makes for a better cable.
