Optical Toslink Audio
Do I need a Toslink cable for LG Plasma when using HDMI?
I am hooking up a LG 60″ plasma to a Marantz SR7002 using HDMI. I am wondering if when watching Television channels received by the plasma, will the sound be sent back to the Marantz receiver or do I need a Toslink optical cable to transmit the audio?
I assume you receive TV via the TV’s tuner (using cable or off the air antenna). In that case, yes, you need a toslink cable to connect the TV to the AVR.
However, if you have a set-top box (cable or satellite), you connect the audio directly from the set-top to the AVR via either the HDMI or toslink.
