Mounting flat panel TV on ceiling?
I am thinking of mounting a flat panel TV on the ceiling of my bedroom so I can look up at it. Can this be done?
One reason why this is a bad idea is that LCD and plasma sets give off a lot of heat at the top in normal operation. The larger the screen, the more the heat. If you put one of these on the ceiling, the heat cannot rise, it will simply dissipate to the sides as well as it can and cause the ceiling surface immediately above it to get very warm.
If you could mount it in such a way that the set is below the ceiling enough that heat above the set can circulate away, it might work. Like, perhaps 3 – 4 inches below the ceiling surface.
You’d have to ensure that your mounting was secured to a ceiling joist and not just the sheetrock. You’d also have an interesting challenge in getting a.c. power to the set, plus your signal source (antenna cable or whatever).
