How to wall-mount a 77lb TV on metal studs?
I have a 50″ Plasma TV weighing in at 76.8lbs that I need to mount in my living room. I bought the wall-mount kit and discovered I have metal studs in the wall I’m using. The lags that came with the kit are for wood studs and I would like to know the best way to go about mounting this. I did some reasearch and people have recommended toggle bolts. Can anyone vouch for these? Are there better solutions? I don’t want to cut the wall and install wood support studs with the metal (too much work). Thanks in advance.
Here is a thought… since you have metal studs, how about installing plywood to the wall about the same size as the TV mount or even the TV? To mount the plywood would be simple with self-taping machine screws with washers and at least 2 screws per stud. Then install the mount to it. There are sheets of plywood with finished surfaces that you could even frame. If you didn’t like this thought… the metal studs would hold the TV and even the toggle bolts would work… you only have sheer weight (vertical load against the screws) to deal with. It would work
