Are big screen TVs bad for your eyes?

We just got a 52 inch LCD TV and a Playstation 3. We are in front of our new TV for hours. Is this bad for your eyes? Should I worry about my kids sitting too close?

You should be sure the tv isn’t set to it’s highest, brightest setting as that can cause eye strain. Usually a mid point on brightness and backlighting is best. Also some tvs have a few picture settings, like dynamic, standard or movie. Keeping it at the mid setting is better too, for the tv and for the eyes.
And in a very dark room, a soft light either behind the tv or somewhere in the room can help keep eyes more relaxed.
The tv itself shouldn’t be a problem, just excessive brightness.
