Has Anybody Tried Connecting A Laptop To An Hdtv Using Both Rgb And S Video Outputs?
I am connecting my laptop to my 52 inch HDTV right now with an S video output, and the quality stinks. It also does this really annoying thing: every time I connect the laptop to the TV using S video, it changes the resolution on my laptop screen to a much smaller resolution.
Is RGB any better than this? Also, does it do the annoying change of the computer’s resolution without me telling it to?
Thank you.

RGB (also known as component) is definitely superior to S-video. Component can carry digital 720p video, which should at least look decent. As for the laptop changing resolutions, you should try using the TV as a second monitor instead of cloning the laptop screen. Assuming you’re using VIsta, right click the desktop, click personalize, and choose display settings. Once you’ve got the TV connected it should show up as a secdond monitor for you to enable.
