What Blu-Ray Player do you think is best.?
I just got a Samsung 52 inch LCD HDTV. I am looking to put a BluRay setup on it, but I need help making up my mind. I know several people suggest the PS3, but I am looking for something that will upconvert DVDs to near 1080p, and I am eventually going to set up a theater system onto it. I’d like to do some of the BD-Live stuff as well. Anyone have any suggestions or good or bad reviews about the players that they have. Thanks for your opinions.

These both are BD players – that are under 1000 bucks…

Um, the PS3 upscales DVDs to near HD quality. And it is the best blu ray player under $1000 so I recommend going the PS3 route.
the ps3 is a true 1080p if you use a hdmi connection to tv that is 1080p and for the sound there will be no problem hooking up to a surround sound system.
any thing from sony really but they are pricey, or probably a blu-ray drive for a PC
Panasonic’s latest Blu-ray Disc players are an exceptional value when it comes to Blu-ray performance. If it’s possible I would also wait and see what OPPO Digital’s plans are for their new BDP-83 Blu-ray Disc Player. (It’s supposed to be making its debut at the 2009 International CES, held January 8-11.) If the BDP-83 BD player performs as well with Blu-ray Discs as their upscaling players perform with DVD-Video discs then it will be tough to beat for those discerning consumers that have a significant investment in DVD-Video discs and/or whose tastes range beyond what is available with the current crop of BD releases. If the latter applies to you then I highly recommend that you check out Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity’s DVD Benchmark.
Samsung hasn’t had a very rosy past when it comes to their earlier BD players so at this point in time I would be very hesitant to recommend a Samsung BD player.
If you absolutely cannot wait a little while longer to see what shapes up at the upcoming CES 2009 then I recommend purchasing one of Panasonic’s new BD players.
