Trying to decide on a receiver for a new system I am putting in. I have a 7.1 system (already have the speakers) but I have not yet purchased the receiver or tv. Trying to figure out what is necessary as a feature and what is not. Like, what is video-up conversion?

Also, Not really sure how many s-video, composite and HDMI inputs/outputs I need. How do you figure that out?

I plan on getting a 52 inch 1080p lcd tv, DVD player, Wii console, PS2. I don’t have a blueray or hd player yet but don’t want to exclude the possibility of using one if I want to.

Another issue to look at is the interfaces. Most other MP3 manufacturers get along with one interface, but iriver uses three of them: to transfer audio, WMP or Windows Explorer needs to be used, with WMP needing to be used for transferring playlist files; when transferring videos, Windows Explorer is used, with a new joint venture between them and Microsoft to tranfer video to the U10 via WMP; and to transfer photos requires resizing the images in PicturePlus (installed with the computer) and transferring them onto the player.
Next is the very unfriendly navigation system that does nothing to compete with the iPod clicking wheel feature. To be able to navigate through the iRiver U10 video player you must be a little more on the “techie” side and that eliminates a vast majority of the pop culture market. Their goal seems to be to find out if the consumer wants battery life, easy of use, or a lot of space. It will be interesting to see their next step.

I am connecting my laptop to my 52 inch HDTV right now with an S video output, and the quality stinks. It also does this really annoying thing: every time I connect the laptop to the TV using S video, it changes the resolution on my laptop screen to a much smaller resolution.
Is RGB any better than this? Also, does it do the annoying change of the computer’s resolution without me telling it to?
