Wall Ceiling Speaker
What do I need to install to check if wall and ceiling speakers work.?

Just bought a house and it has a crazy speaker set up in the living room. There are ten small speakers in the wall just below the ceiling and two huge speakers in the wall lower down, plus maybe another two or three mid size speakers in the walls.
there are tons of wires running into what I imagine to be where they had the PA system or digital home receiver, my question is…how do I check to see if the speakers work? do I need a PA system, a digital home receiver or something else.
I would like to do this in the most cost effective way, thanks in advance.
I would start with a AA battery. All you need to do is touch one side of the wire to the positive end and the other side to the negative. If you hear it kinda pop then you know it works. Do this with every speaker and then you can move up to a new reciever to try different sounds. Plus this way let’s you know which speakers belong to which wire. By the way, it only works when you tap the wires to the ends. Hold one end and tap the other on the battery, you will hear it pop. Don’t worry, this is not going to harm the speakers.
